This week Kiss of Death examines the murder of Mario Scramuzza, a paramedic and firefighter whose wife hired three men to kill him.
Mario and Gina Scramuzza met through their work with him being a paramedic and volunteer firefighter and her working in the ER. They really hit it off and are soon married, living a fairly luxurious lifestyle and enjoying the finer things in life.
March 2009 Covington, Louisiana, and 48-year-old Mario was found by his wife dead in his own home, he’d been beaten and strangled to death. Police were suspicious right away and began questioning Gina about the murder and over the weekend she confessed to killing Mario. She also named 38-year-old Carlos A. Rodriguez as her accomplice.
It soon became apparent that Gina had been planning the murder for months and had hired Rodriguez, Luis Starlyn Hernandez Rodriguez and Erly Montoya-Matute to carry out her plan.
The sparks that flew when Mario and Gina had first met had long gone and they had been living almost separate lives. Gina was also keen on pocketing her husband’s life insurance money and decided killing him was her best option, despite the pair having a teenage son together.
In 2013 Gina pled guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Kiss of Death airs on Thursdays at 9:00 P.M. on Investigation Discovery.
