Romance is a Bonus Book will make its debut on the Total Variety Network (tvN) as their first K-drama of the year. The latest series to debut on tvN is already accumulating a lot of hype before its debut as many want to know what it’s about before they tune in.
If love from a K-drama were a book, it would read like this
Romance is a Bonus Book is a series that follows the lives of employees who work in a publishing company.
Lee Jong-Suk plays Cha Eun-Ho, a genius writer and the youngest chief editor ever at his publishing company. He is smart, handsome, even-tempered at work, warm-hearted, and reasonable.
Lee Na-Young plays Kang Dan-Yi. Formerly a popular copywriter, she is now broke and unemployed. Due to her impressive credentials, career and excellent educational background, other companies are intimidated and choose not to hire her.
Eventually, Kang Dan-Yi gets the job at Cha Eun-Ho’s publishing company by lying about her background. While working together, Dan-Yi and Eun-Ho develop feelings for one another.
What are the reasons why K-drama fans should check out Romance is a Bonus Book?
The synopsis of the upcoming K-drama seems to be rock solid enough for viewers to at least take a gander at it, but it is the star power that will earn viewers. Both Lee Na-Young and Lee Jong-Suk have made a name for themselves for the roles they’ve played in popular K-dramas and K-movies.
Starting with the former, Lee Na-Young has been acting for over two decades now. She rose to fame for her authentic and nuanced acting in Ruler of Your Own World back in 2002. Her last role in K-dramas was in 2010 as Jini in The Fugitive: Plan B.
As for the latter, Lee Jong-Suk has starred in numerous popular K-dramas. Starting with his breakout role in School 2013, he’s also been in I Can hear Your Voice, Doctor Stranger, Pinocchio, W, While You Were Sleeping, and The Hymn of Death.
For those who don’t know, he also played a gay musician in one of the most popular K-dramas in Hallyu history, Secret Garden.
Even with the aforementioned actors’ accolades, Romance is a Bonus Book means something that is unique to both of them each. For Lee Na-Young, it is her first K-drama gig in nine years. As for Lee Jong-Suk, it is his very first romantic comedy.
