For a brand like WWE NXT, it is hard to keep WWE spoilers a secret because they pre-tape all their WWE Network shows and only the WWE TakeOver events are live.
As a result, the company has chosen not to bother hiding WWE spoilers anymore, hoping that fans will still tune in to see the matches — knowing it is arguably the best wrestling action the WWE produces.
Tonight, NXT was taping their next month’s of shows at Full Sail Live in Orlando and the company’s biggest title changed hands — not at a TakeOver event but at the television tapings.
After the news leaked of the WWE title change on Twitter, the WWE itself reported that Tommaso Ciampa beat Aleister Black to win the NXT Championship. Ciampa is the 14th superstar to win this title since its inception.
This is huge news since the WWE is holding a major NXT TakeOver event in August over SummerSlam weekend in Brooklyn. This title change will happen before that event, which makes it sound like there will be a title defense by Ciampa and maybe Black will be ready to move on to Monday Night Raw or SmackDown.
The bigger news is that this gives Tommaso Ciampa his first major singles title in the WWE and opens the door for Johnny Gargano — the most over babyface in the company — to chase the title against his hated enemy for the title and not just for revenge.
The best way for this to play out would be for Ciampa to duck the challenge of Gargano for the next half year and then have the two finally face for the NXT Championship in Brooklyn on April 6, 2019 — the weekend of WrestleMania.
That could end up as the biggest match in NXT history, with Gargano the biggest babyface in all the WWE and the two matches between these two men being two of the best matches of the last year.
The moment that Johnny Gargano wins the NXT title could be the best moment of WrestleMania weekend, hands down.
At least, we can hope that is the WWE gameplan after these latest WWE spoilers.
