Most WWE fans expected Brock Lesnar to lose his Universal Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34 and leave the WWE to return to the UFC.
That didn’t happen. Lesnar won the match, signed a new contract and is still the WWE Universal Champion. However, as with his entire title run, he rarely ever appears on Monday Night Raw and has only wrestled in one match since WrestleMania 34.
In what has to be a disappointment for fans of CM Punk, Brock Lesnar will eclipse the 434-day title reign that Punk enjoyed as the longest world title reign in WWE history in the next week. However, don’t expect to see Lesnar defending his title again anytime soon.
According to Cageside Seats, Brock Lesnar is not expected to defend the WWE Universal Championship again until SummerSlam in August. That will mean that almost four months will pass between his defense against Reigns at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia and his next title defense.
During his 434-day title reign, CM Punk defended the title monthly and also wrestled other matches on Monday Night Raw. Brock Lesnar, on the other hand, is a “special attraction” and now that the WWE is paying him $500,000 per match, they won’t send him out any more than they have to.
Cageside Seats also reports that the rumored opponent for Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam will be Seth Rollins — a curious decision at best. Rollins did win a world title in a match that Lesnar was involved in, but it was a three-way and Rollins pinned Roman Reigns in that match.
At the same time, there are rumors that the SummerSlam match might be the last for Lesnar if he does decide to return to the UFC.
Cageside Seats also reports that Braun Strowman is the current betting favorite to win the Money in the Bank contract this month and he could possibly use that Lesnar appearance as a chance to cash that in if he does hold the briefcase.
