For the past few months, there have been a ton of rumors surrounding a Rey Mysterio return to the WWE.

It all started when Mysterio surprised the WWE Universe when he took part in the Royal Rumble in January. He ended up as one of the final six men in the match, standing beside John Cena and Randy Orton and facing young stars in Finn Balor, Roman Reigns and Shinsuke Nakamura.

He then said that he was working on a new contract with the WWE, but the Rey Mysterio return was spoiled when he fell to injury at an indie wrestling show.

However, Mysterio returned again for the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia once again and started talking about returning once more to the WWE.

Now, after an advertisement on WWE Monday Night Raw this week, a Rey Mysterio return is almost guaranteed — but there is no telling when it will happen.

The commercial was for WWE 2K19 and anyone who orders the game early gets Rey Mysterio as a bonus character. Signing for the video game does not mean a wrestler is returning to the WWE. However, it has always had another meaning.

The Ultimate Warrior was a bonus order for WWE 2K14 and he entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014. Sting was the bonus character for WWE 2K15 and entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016.

WWE 2K17 had Goldberg as the pre-order bonus and he entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018. Kurt Angle was the pre-order bonus character for WWE 2K18 and went into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.

With Rey Mysterio as the pre-order bonus for WWE 2K19, it seems almost a lock that he is going in the WWE Hall of Fame very soon.

Of course, Rey is still wrestling and has something he can still give to the WWE, so a Rey Mysterio return is still likely. The problem up front is that he is booked for the All-In event in Chicago that is booked by Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks.

The WWE might let that go and bring Mysterio back closer to 2019 to capitalize on the possible induction.
