Originally, WWE Crown Jewel was supposed to have Roman Reigns defend his Universal Championship in a three-way match against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman.

Most of the WWE rumors surrounding Roman’s title reign claimed that he would hold it for a long time. That was supposed to start with finally eliminating the challenge of Brock Lesnar, who got his promised rematch in Saudi Arabia.

Why did Brock Lesnar win at WWE Crown Jewel?

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Brock Lesnar was supposed to be finished with the WWE after Crown Jewel. Roman Reigns was supposed to win the match and then Lesnar would leave to prepare for his UFC return.

However, when Roman Reigns was forced relinquish the Universal Championship due to his battle with leukemia, plans had to change.

The WWE did not want to put the title on Braun Strowman at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. The reason is not clear, although there might be a long-term goal in place for the Monster Among Men.

What is next for Brock Lesnar and the WWE?

With that said, the WWE got with Brock Lesnar and worked out a new deal.

Instead of WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia being his final WWE match, for now, he signed an agreement that has at least two more matches lined up.

The first is with AJ Styles at Survivor Series this month and the second is possibly going to be at the Royal Rumble. After that, Lesnar is likely going back to the UFC.

It is also important to know that the contract is not exclusive, so he can make UFC appearances without getting clearance from the WWE.

There is also no idea what the WWE has planned for the Universal Championship and whether or not they have anyone in mind to finally take the title back from Lesnar.
