When Vince McMahon told Braun Strowman he was losing his shot at the WWE Universal Championship, many people believed that it was because he would not get cleared to compete in time for the Royal Rumble.
As we previously reported, that was not the case. The WWE always planned to pull Strowman from the Universal title match.
The truth is that the WWE did not want Braun Strowman to lose to Brock Lesnar again but also didn’t want to put the title on him. As a result, they always planned to take him out of the match and do something else with him.
The WWE just reported that Braun Strowman will be involved in the WWE Royal Rumble tonight. He is not only cleared for a return, but he will be in the men’s Rumble match to try to force his way back into the title picture for WrestleMania 35.
The news came via the WWE Instagram account where Cathy Kelley reported that Braun Strowman would replace John Cena in the men’s Royal Rumble match.
This seems a bit silly since the WWE still has 10 spots open in the men’s match after the 20 they had announced so far. Strowman “replacing” an injured John Cena still leaves 10 open spots.
There are also major rumors that there will be a huge surprise at the 2019 Royal Rumble tonight, although it was clarified it would not include an appearance by Kenny Omega, who is supposed to sign with AEW wrestling instead.
The 2019 Royal Rumble, the first major WWE PPV of 2019, will start at 7 p.m. EST on the WWE Network tonight.
