When Ronda Rousey came out to talk about the Royal Rumble last night on Monday Night Raw, the fans booed her mercilessly.

There wasn’t a reaction like that for a babyface character since the night after Roman Reigns beat The Undertaker to end his WrestleMania streak. In that promo, Reigns couldn’t say anything over the boos and finally just said “this is my yard” and left the ring.

The WWE chose to keep Roman Reigns a babyface, but fans never warmed up to him.

With Ronda Rousey, it is different.

Why is WWE worried about Ronda Rousey getting booed?

Ronda Rousey made her debut at the Royal Rumble in 2018 to announce that she was coming to the company and planned to compete at WrestleMania 34.

Rousey teamed with Kurt Angle and beat Stephanie McMahon and Triple H at that show. The fans loved her and cheered wildly every time she came to the ring.

It was also clear that Rousey was loving every minute of it and smiled constantly until it was time to get into character for her promos.

Things changed last year when the WWE booked Rousey into a feud with Becky Lynch. No one in the WWE is getting a louder pop that Lynch right now and that pushed them into rejecting Rousey.

Not only did the WWE Universe boo Rousey in the lead-in to the feud with Lynch but they booed her when she fought Charlotte Flair at the Survivor Series and even chanted “you deserve it” when Flair beat her with a kendo stick.

They booed her when she fought Sasha Banks at the Royal Rumble. They booed her when she came out on Monday Night Raw to talk about how great Banks was as an opponent.

Rousey couldn’t do what Roman Reigns did before and she struggled with the promo so the WWE sent out Bayley to make a challenge instead and save Rousey.

Then, when Becky Lynch came out and said she would face Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35, the fans were unanimously on Lynch’s side and booed everything Rousey said.

On today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that the WWE is concerned about the boos.

Meltzer pointed out that Rousey loved being in the WWE but when fans started turning on her after a while, Rousey began to vocally dislike MMA fans in general.

There is a concern in the WWE that the boos — while she is playing the part of a babyface — might sour her to the WWE.

How is WWE dealing with Ronda Rousey?

The question then comes to what the WWE will do to patch things up for Ronda Rousey.

There was already an incident where rumors that Rousey wanted to start a family got out and she went into a bizarre rant about people being concerned with her reproductive organs.

There was also a moment after her loss at the Survivor Series where she vocally told a fan that they were not “much of a man.”

As a babyface, this is problematic.

Meltzer mentioned that there are those within the WWE who know that they need to make Ronda Rousey a heel in the feud with Becky Lynch leading into WrestleMania 35.

However, there is also the chance that Rousey could become disappointed off camera and they have paired her up with Paul Heyman to help her backstage.

This is huge because Heyman is known as someone who is incredible at boosting up people who are unhappy backstage.
