When Fox picked up the rights to SmackDown Live to move the show to Friday nights on broadcast television starting in October, rumors flew about NXT. The rumors were that NXT was going to join SmackDown Live but be on a Fox Sports channel instead of the basic Fox channel.
It now sounds like that is not what is going to happen at all.
Instead, while USA Network was not interested in outbidding Fox for SmackDown Live, they are very interested in bringing NXT to their cable network.
According to PWInsider, it is a “done deal” to bring NXT to the USA Network and the announcement is planned to arrive shortly.
The site reports that USA Network came to WWE and made their interests known to air NXT but the deal is still not signed on the dotted line yet.
According to reports, NXT staff was in Florida this week discussing making it a longer show, possibly moving it to two hours. There is a taping at Full Sail University on September 11 and then tapings on September 12.

PWInsider reports that the idea is that the September 11 could be a live episode on USA Network and then after the next month’s tapings, it would go live from then on starting in October.
The big thing to note here is that AEW on TNT premieres on Oct. 2 and the NXT show on USA Network would air live the exact same time AEW on TNT airs.
This is not the same as Monday Nitro vs. Monday Night Raw in the Monday Night Wars but is a very close comparison, especially since AEW and NXT have similar fan bases with fans of the indie stars on both shows.
WWE NXT currently airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on WWE Network.
