There was a lot of excitement surrounding the arrival of Shinsuke Nakamura to the WWE after an amazing career in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

However, after a fantastic stint in NXT where he was the NXT Champion and turned in a ton of great matches, he has underwhelmed on the main roster.

While some fans might see Shinsuke Nakamura as being underrated by the WWE, there are others who see him as someone who hasn’t turned in performances worthy of his previous stature.

Shinsuke Nakamura on being underrated

Shinsuke Nakamura was interviewed by Sports Illustrated and a question was asked about underrated superstars in the WWE, possibly wondering if his name would rise to the top of the conversation.

However, Nakamura started to talk about some very surprising names – some that have been overlooked for a long time and others who are always in the spotlight, but he feels are underrated anyway.

Nakamura said “most people” in the WWE right now are underrated.

When it comes to superstars that few fans even think of anymore, Nakamura pointed out that Tye Dillinger, Shelton Benjamin and both Primo and Epico Colon are underrated in his eyes.

Benjamin is a former tag team champion who returned last year but has stagnated with no storylines despite his immense talent. Dillinger came up to the main roster in the Royal Rumble but has done nothing since. Primo and Epico have never been more than a jobber tag team.

Up next, Nakamura mentioned some stars. He pointed out that both the Bludgeon Brothers nad New Day are underrated. These two units have been pushed hard but maybe Nakamura means they are underrated by fans.

New Day is the longest reigning tag team champions in WWE history and have closed in on the most title reigns as well. However, people just talk about their goofy comedy acts and seem to ignore the fact that they are all three great wrestlers in the ring.

The Bludgeon Brothers are a team that was pushed hard and were destroying everyone they faced, from New Day to the Usos with little problems. That ended when Erick Rowan was injured. While few people praise Rowan’s in-ring work, Luke Harper is one of the best big men in the WWE.

Shinsuke Nakamura future in the WWE

As for Shinsuke Nakamura, he won the United States Championship last year but then did almost nothing with it. He had a few matches here and there but missed some big pay-per-views.

Nakamura finally lost it to Rusev.

Now, Nakamura’s WWE contract expires this year and many people wonder if he will leave and return to Japan. It remains to be seen if he has done all he wanted to in the WWE and will return to NJPW to finish off his career at home.
