John Cena makes his big WWE return on SmackDown Live tonight.
He made his actual WWE return on Dec. 26 but this is his first time on television in months and SmackDown Live will see him in his first televised WWE match since WWE Super Show-Down in Australia.

How long will John Cena be back in the WWE?
The John Cena return will be even shorter than originally thought.
Cena will be on Raw for the next two weeks but then he will leave the WWE once again. From the look of it, Cena will not take part in the Royal Rumble this year at all.
In a Facebook interview, Cena explained that he will be on Monday Night Raw on January 7 and January 14. He then said that, as soon as the Raw on the January 14 ends, he will be finished with this WWE run.
He said that he will be heading to Canada to start shooting a new movie that’s production will kick off on January 20.
Cena also didn’t mention another SmackDown Live appearance, so this WWE return will likely only consist of three televised appearances.
“I made a promise to the WWE Universe that I would never leave and I know it’s really difficult to understand because I’m not there every week and it truly breaks my heart,” Cena said. “But there are some wonderful opportunities and with those opportunities come more acceptance from the world of what we do here in WWE.”

What is next for John Cena?
John Cena is riding high off his release of Bumblebee, which is the highest rated Transformers movie when it comes to critics (93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes).
Add in his famed “appearance” in the Netflix film Bird Box, and he has kept busy in 2018.
John Cena said that he is heading to Canada on January 20 to start production on a new movie — and since he said that he is not allowed to wrestle when shooting a movie, that means no Royal Rumble appearance.
He has two movies in pre-production on his IMDB page, but there is no telling if it is one of these or something entirely new for John Cena in 2019.
Those movies are:
- The Janson Directive: Former Navy SEAL and prisoner of war, Paul Janson, works as a corporate security consultant, but when an assignment to rescue a VIP goes wrong, he’s forced to go on the run.
- Playing with Fire: A crew of rugged fighters meet their match when attempting to rescue three rambunctious kids.
Only Playing with Fire has a director listed in Andy Fickman, the man who directed two movies with The Rock in The Game Plan and Race to Witch Mountain.
John Cena also has Project X coming, a movie he shot with Jackie Chan in 2018, and The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle, which is already in post-production as well.
- Marvel’s Morbius movie release date moved again as theatrical delays continue - 22nd January 2021
- Netflix’s Bridgerton officially renewed, cast appearing on The Netflix Afterparty - 21st January 2021
- Netflix’s new foreign series Lupin most-watched show since The Witcher - 20th January 2021
