Cena was talking about coming back to the WWE and knowing that someone from the back would come out and challenge his place in the company. He likely had no idea it was going to be the most popular female wrestler the WWE has seen in years.
Becky Lynch and John Cena
Becky Lynch came down to the ring and got into John Cena’s face. She told Cena that she wasn’t going to just replace Charlotte Flair as the face of the women, but she was going to replace John Cena as the face of the WWE.
Lynch then delivered the best line of the night.
“It’s time for someone new to step up, step in and fill your shoes,” she said. “And if you have a problem with that, Nikki Bella won’t be the only woman to drop you this year.”
This led to Zelina Vega and Andrade Cien Almas coming out and a mixed tag match took place.
That match ended with Cena about to get the win over Almas after an Attitude Adjustment and the Lightning Fist. After this, Becky Lynch knocked Cena out of the ring and got the win by making Vega tap out.
John Cena went to shake her hand after the match and Becky Lynch did the “you can’t see me” hand gesture and walked to the back on her own.
John Cena gives his opinion of Becky Lynch
John Cena was filmed in a backstage interview after that match.
In that video, he said that he said that Becky Lynch was “The Man” in an interview he did for Bumblebee and that he feels she really believes that is true.
Cena then said that this is not a character that Becky Lynch is playing — this is the real Becky Lynch and she is someone he can relate to as a WWE superstar.
John Cena, one of the best WWE wrestlers of all time, then said that every other WWE superstar needs to be watching Becky Lynch right now because this is how a wrestler needs to present themselves to the audience — with authority.
