The WWE is working towards their Money in the Bank pay-per-view and this week on Monday Night Raw, the company moved forward with a number of stories heading into that big show. Here is a look at five highlights from this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.

Ronda Rousey makes a surprise appearance on Raw

Ronda Rousey was not scheduled to appear on Monday Night Raw in Houston, so when she showed up backstage with Natalya, it was a huge surprise for the WWE Universe. Then, Rousey came out and did commentary while Natalya wrestled WWE women’s champion, Nia Jax.

This was continuing the storyline of Ronda Rousey challenging Nia Jax for the women’s title at Money in the Bank and Natalya is a friend of Rousey. The match was not a great one and ended when Natalya twisted her ankle and fell to injury. Nia then picked her up, hit the Samoan Drop, and won the match.

After the match was over, Rousey came down and checked on Natalya. Nia Jax, who showed heel tendencies last week, seemed concerned as well but Rousey acted like Nia was who hurt Natalya when it was just an accident. This entire story makes no sense right now, as Nia Jax was a face in an anti-bullying storyline before, acted like a bully last week, and it was Rousey acting like a jerk this week.

No idea what the WWE is planning here.

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins team up

It is always nice when there is a mini-Shield reunion. After missing last week’s Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns was back this week and teamed with Seth Rollins against Elias and Jinder Mahal. This match served two purposes.

First, Seth Rollins will defend the Intercontinental title against Elias at Money in the Bank and Roman Reigns is scheduled to battle Jinder Mahal. The match ended in a win for the bad guys when Elias pinned Rollins, which works well on making it seem like he stands a chance against Rollins.

There was also a brawl later between Roman Reigns and Jinder Mahal backstage, showing the blood feud between those two competitors.

Money in the Bank competitors battle

In a typical WWE move, the company is taking the eight men in the Money in the Bank ladder match and putting them against each other in a mix-and-match style heading into the pay-per-view. Last week, Finn Balor fought Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens fought Bobby Roode.

This week, Strowman fought Roode and Balor fought Owens. It is just the same format the WWE always uses to throw matches at the fans with the wrestlers so that when the big match finally happens, the WWE Universe has already seen it over and over before.

Strowman beat Roode after an awesome moment where he broke a ladder in half with his hands before power-slamming Roode. As for Balor and Owens, that ended in a DQ win for Balor, who then finished the show by hitting a Coup de Grâce from the ladder onto Owens.

Next week, all four men will wrestle in a four-way match against each other.

There are new No. 1 tag team contenders

In what comes as no surprise to anyone, The B-Team won the tag team battle royal and they became the new number one contenders to the WWE Raw tag team titles. This has been building ever since The Miz left, and while it is nice to see Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel — two second-generation stars — getting a small push, they have no realistic chance to win at Money in the Bank.

What is interesting is that The Revival and the team of Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre were in this match and ended up going nowhere (Ziggler was the first man eliminated and Rhyno, of all people, eliminated The Revival!).

The Bayley and Sasha Banks feud will never end

Bayley and Sasha Banks have had an antagonistic relationship for most of the year, as the two friends can’t seem to get along. They were rumored to wrestle at WrestleMania 34 — and it never happened. Finally, it looked like their feud was over and then tonight it started again.

Sasha Banks, Ember Moon and Alexa Bliss (why?) battled The Riott Squad. Bliss was injured (or maybe faked it) and left. It was two-on-one and just when things looked bad, Bayley’s music started and she ran out, was tagged in, and got the pin.

Of course, Bayley was not in the match, so the good guys ended up losing by DQ. That made Sasha Banks angry looking, and the passive-aggressive feud between her and Bayley will never end.
