The WWE made changes to their WrestleMania 35 weekend schedule and there were to rumors floating around as to why they did so.
One of the rumors was that the WWE moved the Hall of Fame ceremony to Saturday night to make it easier for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to fly in and accept his induction before appearing at WrestleMania 35 the next day.
The second rumor was that they moved it so that WWE NXT TakeOver would not have to compete with the Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling G1 Supercard taking place on Saturday night just a few miles away in Madison Square Garden.
Triple H hints at the reason they moved the WWE Hall of Fame event
In the WWE conference call on Wednesday, Jan. 23, Triple H (via 411mania) was asked straight up why the WWE switched the NXT TakeOver event from Saturday night to Friday night and moved the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony to replace it.
Triple H said that it was all about the fans and not making them choose what they wanted to go see.
While he did not mention Ring of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling, it was clear that was what he was talking about.
The same fans who love Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling also typically love the action from NXT. With the G1 Supershow taking place at Madison Square Garden and the NXT TakeOver event taking place at the Barclays Center, fans would have to choose which one to attend on the same night.
The WWE moved their event and now fans can attend both shows. Honestly, the fans who want to attend these shows are not likely the same ones paying to go see the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony.
Triple H on AEW Wresting
The very next question asked about All Elite Wrestling and what Triple H thought about the new competition from AEW wrestling.
First, Triple H repeated the WWE company line, which is basically that they compete with all entertainment options — television, movies, ect…
However, he did admit that they are “clearly” keeping an eye on AEW wrestling and will do whatever is “right for their business” if the time comes where they need to address it.
