WWE Hall of Fame superstar Pedro Morales died today at the age of 76, as reported by the WWE.
According to Ringside News, Morales had been battling an advanced case of Parkinson’s disease.
Following his wrestling career, Morales lived out his final years in New Jersey where he and his wife of over 40 years, Karen lived. He had one son, Pedro Jr.
Who was Pedro Morales?
Some fans today might have no idea who Pedro Morales was, and that is tragic since he is one of the greatest WWE wrestlers of all-time.
He was the first ever WWE triple crown winner, holding the WWF world title, WWF tag team titles
While Bruno Sammartino was clearly the face of the WWE when he was on top, Morales was just as popular, the Puerto Rican native bringing in a huge Latino fanbase.
He was the first Latino to ever hold the world title, winning it in between Sammartino’s massive title reigns. He ranks fifth on the list of the most days as WWE champion (1,027), behind only Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Bob Backlund
What is impressive is that he only held the title one time, for just short of three total years as champion.
He also held the Intercontinental title longer than anyone in history (619 days).
The WWE inducted him into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1995 — part of the third ever induction class, alongside names like Sgt. Slaughter, George “The Animal Steele” and The Fabulous Moolah..
