Mick Foley took to Twitter today to remember one of the most painful experiences of his life — the Mick Foley vs. Undertaker Hell in a Cell 1998 match that saw him thrown off the top of the cell and through a table.

The photo he used was actually the more devastating blow.

Looking back, when Undertaker threw Foley off the top of the Hell in a Cell structure through the announcer’s table, that is the moment that everyone remembers from that iconic event. It was something no one had seen before and announcer Jim Ross sold it like Foley was dying.

Foley wrote Have a Nice Day in 1999 and in that book he said that “‘Do you believe in miracles’, ‘The Giants win the pennant’ and in my mind ‘With God as my witness he’s been broken in half’ is as good as anything that I have ever heard anywhere.”

However, Mick Foley got back up and kept fighting. He went back to the top of the cell and the two went at it again. It was completely ridiculous. It finally ended when Undertaker choke-slammed Foley through the top of the cell and into the ring.

When Foley talks about the match, he mentions that the fall to the ring knocked him out and caused more damage than the fall onto the table. It also knocked out one of his teeth, which ended up lodged in his nose. His children were in the audience to witness this, something Foley has also shown regrets about later in life.

Mick Foley is now on his “20 Years of Hell Tour” — one of his many stand-up tours where he tells stories and answers questions. He spoke about the tour in an interview with the Two Men Power Trip of Wrestling Podcast (via Wrestling Inc).

“I didn’t want to be known for just that one thing,” Foley said. “But after it awhile it was like maybe this isn’t the worst thing to be known for but it has been really cathartic to discuss it.”
