For years now, Dolph Ziggler has been one of the best in-ring performers in the WWE, although he rarely gets any credit for what he brings to the product.

At one time, Ziggler was the most-popular wrestler on the roster and the pop he got when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to beat Alberto Del Rio a few years back was one of the loudest in WWE history.

However, over the past few years, Dolph Ziggler has been thrown into bad gimmicks and angles and even when he does do something good — like his tag team last year with Drew McIntyre and his matches with The Shield — fans don’t seem to take him seriously anymore.

Ziggler’s contract comes to an end at the end of January and there are heavy WWE rumors that he is leaving the company.

Early rumors stated that the WWE wanted to make him a producer for the company but Ziggler rejected that role.

In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Ziggler said that he is currently on a “hiatus” with the WWE but hasn’t decided what the future holds.

What he did say is that fans won’t see him tonight at the 2019 WWE Royal Rumble.

“Technically I am still under contract, yes, but I am not scheduled to be at the Royal Rumble,” Ziggler said.

His last WWE appearance was the blowoff to his angle with Drew McIntyre. The two were tag team partners and champions but the WWE had McIntyre turn on Ziggler and when the year started, Drew beat Dolph in a steel cage match and then destroyed him after the match ended.

Ziggler has not been seen since.

When it comes to the WWE rumors that the WWE wanted to make him a producer, Ziggler didn’t deny them but made it clear he was not interested in that role.

“If WWE wanted to keep me around, it would be to be in the ring,” Ziggler said. “For now. Producing I could see happening 10 years down the line but I don’t know why I wouldn’t be doing some other stuff first.”

Ziggler also said that he would rather do it himself in the ring right now and not just teach others something he should still be doing. He also admitted that something Drew McIntyre said during their feud might be true, that maybe it is time he got out of the WWE.

With that said, the question then turned to AEW wrestling rumors.

“I have some other things going on at the moment but that should always be an option for anybody especially someone like me who has been around for a long time,” Ziggler said.

“So you never know. I think it would be great, I think it would be a great addition to that company which seems to be for true wrestlers who love the sport and the business. It’s a great idea.”
