In some hugely shocking news, Dean Ambrose is rumored to be leaving the WWE after WrestleMania 35 and actually gave the company his notice before the Royal Rumble.

Updated to announce that the WWE has clarified that Dean Ambrose is leaving

This also reportedly altered the WWE’s plans concerning the Royal Rumble, as there was supposed to be a huge surprise planned to take place at the first WWE PPV of 2019.

Why is Dean Ambrose leaving the WWE?

When Dean Ambrose first showed up in the WWE as part of The Shield, he was considered the second coming of Rowdy Roddy Piper or Jake The Snake Roberts.

He was the perfect heel and someone who could act both arrogant and cruel — seeming to be the breakout heel of the group. However, the WWE chose to make Seth Rollins the heel when The Shield broke up and Ambrose went in a different direction.

In a huge moment, Seth Rollins beat Roman Reigns for the world title and then Ambrose cashed in his Money in the Bank to beat Rollins, meaning that all three members of The Shield were world champions on the same day.

However, after winning the WWE world title, Dean Ambrose stayed a face and became almost a goofy comedy act. He would cut goofy promos and acted like a fool most of the time.

According to PW Torch, Ambrose “hates hokey sh*t” and that is one of the reasons that he is tired of his status in the WWE and wants to leave.

Will WWE try to keep Dean Ambrose?

According to the same reports, the WWE tried to convince Dean Ambrose not to leave over the Royal Rumble weekend. They offered him a new contract that was a huge raise and he turned it down.

Reports indicate that Ambrose said he was not interested in more money because it was all about his character and place in the promotion.

There was supposed to be a huge surprise at the Royal Rumble but it never happened. According to WrestleVotes — a Twitter handle that has broken a lot of big news in the past — it was supposed to involve Dean Ambrose.

When Ambrose finally gave his notice, that surprise was canceled. Ambrose was eliminated in the match by NXT star Aleister Black.

The next night on Monday Night Raw, Ambrose lost cleanly to Seth Rollins. After that, Ambrose was sitting in the ring and was about to talk to the crowd but Nia Jax came out and tossed him out of the ring.

There are still just over two months until WrestleMania 35, so a lot could still happen in that time to convince Dean Ambrose to stay or push him out the door of the WWE when his contract expires.
