Most fans knew that Matt Hardy was coming to AEW. However, many believed that he was going to be The Exalted One in The Dark Order.
Those people were wrong.
Matt Hardy debuts on AEW Dynamite
This week’s AEW Dynamite episode took place in an arena with no fans due to the coronavirus.
However, unlike WWE, who have struggled to make this format work, AEW Dynamite was a home run for the company.
The show was very entertaining, as the matches worked great with a new camera position and wrestlers standing in the audience where fans usually sit to react to the matches.
There were even surprises, such as the announcement of a parking lot brawl between Best Friends and Lucha Bros and the revelation that Blood & Guts was still coming to AEW Dynamite.
When it comes to Blood & Guts, the match looked to be a five-on-four match now, with The Inner Circle at full strength. However, The Elite is down Nick Jackson, who was hurt and taken out of action in a sneak attack last week.
That is not the case.
At the end of the show, The Inner Circle beat The Elite in a big match to give them the advantage in the War Games-style Blood & Guts match. As Chris Jericho bragged about having the advantage of being up one man, he was interrupted.
What interrupted him was a drone flying over the ring.
It was Vanguard One!
Matt Jackson took the mic and said that he did a friend a favor, and now that friend was going to help The Elite by repaying that favor.
Then, the piano notes began to play, and the spotlight hit the upper stands behind the ring where Broken Matt Hardy stood, rubbing his hands together and acting as only he can, clicking his teeth and doing the Delete chop.
This moment would have gotten a huge reaction from a crowd but was still one of AEW’s most-watched moments on YouTube, with over 1.4 million views in 24 hours.
Matt Hardy and The Elite
Fans who watch both Being the Elite and Matt Hardy’s own YouTube show online knew something was coming.
Last week, The Young Bucks made a special appearance on Hardy’s show to help him and bury him alive to rid him of an evil spirit that took over his body.
Now, it appears that Matt Hardy is back and part of AEW, where he will help the “Bucks of Youth” in their battle with Chris Jericho.
AEW Dynamite airs on Wednesdays at 8/7c on TNT.
