Many WWE fans were loud and clear that they did not like the idea of Bill Goldberg beating The Fiend Bray Wyatt for the Universal Championship.
The thought is that WWE built up Bray Wyatt as The Fiend and this one moment destroyed all that hard work.
However, one man who disagrees with this is WWE Hall of Fame superstar Booker T. On his podcast (via 411mania), Booker T explained why Goldberg beating Bray Wyatt is what is best for WWE.
Booker T defends Goldberg title win
Booker T said that there were really two options when it came to The Fiend, Bray Wyatt.
One is what happened, with Bill Goldberg beating him for the WWE Universal Championship at Super Showdown in Saudi Arabia.
The other is for The Fiend to defend his Universal Championship against John Cena at WrestleMania 36.
“We can’t let someone like John Cena make that move, as far as beating The Fiend,” Booker T said. I’m just saying, me personally, I like this.”
Now, while that would allow Cena to win his 17th world title, the fact is that Cena is not going to be around any more than Goldberg. However, Cena beating Wyatt likely would have hurt more than him losing to Goldberg.
“My thing was this: how else were we going to get the belt off the Fiend? Who was going to take it off of him?” Booker T asked. “Who else can we believe for a moment, taking it? And we may not even believe this. But who else taking the title off The Fiend would’ve been better than Goldberg?”
But, why did anyone need to beat Bray Wyatt at all right now?
Booker T knows that WWE wanted to put Roman Reigns back on top as the babyface champion and him beating Bray Wyatt would not have worked. The fans would have eaten Reigns alive.
“What’s better, Roman conquering The Fiend or Roman conquering Goldberg?” Booker T asked.
The Fiend at WrestleMania 36
A lot of people feel that The Fiend was buried by losing to Bill Goldberg in two minutes. However, Brock Lesnar lost to Goldberg in one minute, losing his title in that match.
It didn’t hurt Brock Lesnar, and if WWE plays its cards right, it won’t hurt The Fiend.
That is why the Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena match is so important at WrestleMania 36. If Cena puts over The Fiend, everything could be fixed.
Roman Reigns will be the next Universal Champion and Bray Wyatt will be a monster again.
WWE WrestleMania 36 takes place on April 5 and airs on WWE Network, starting at 5:30/4:30 CT.
