Tom Brady has left the building. Any Patriots fans under the age of 22 are going to see something they have never seen before – a man not named Tom Brady leading the Patriots on the field in 2020.
Who will be the Patriots starting QB in 2020?
With Tom Brady taking his talents to Tampa, the two names remaining on the New England Patriots roster are Cody Kessler and Jarrett Stidham.
Not very Brady-ish now is it?
Nevertheless, the next QB to take over in New England is going to be under the microscope in a big way. Fairly or unfairly, that is just how it’s going to be.
With players jumping ship at a seemingly record pace in New England, does coach Bill Belichick want to start either of these two if he believes they could learn from a veteran QB?
Or will New England be moving on from both of them if and when the Patriots start an overhaul?
Jarrett Stidham had a decent career at Auburn, while Cody Kessler was a stud at USC.
Kessler threw for over 10,000 yards and 88 touchdown passes during his time at Southern Cal. However, he has not had the same results in the NFL.
Kessler has a career record of just 2-10 in the pros but everyone should take that with a grain of salt. He played for the Cleveland Browns in 2016 and 2017, and NFL fans know how those years went.
Maybe under coach Belichick, Kessler can find his groove once again.
Vegas odds on next Patriots starting QB
So, if not Jarrett Stidham or Cody Kessler, then who?
The favorite to be the Patriots starting QB for opening week in 2020 is someone who is already a star with another team.
Unless NFL insiders know something we all don’t, it looks like they have tabbed Deshaun Watson as New England’s starting QB this fall. Really?
It is possible but doubtful.
The 24-year-old former Clemson star will become a free agent after this season is complete. Unless Houston believes they can’t resign him, maybe trading him is the only way to get something in return?
He’s not Brady but you can bet Pats fans would love to see Watson leading New England this fall.
Three other names on the list seem very realistic.
Former Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett, Carolina’s Cam Newton, and the Bengals’ Andy Dalton.
Andy Dalton has had a decent career; however, he has never lived up to the hype. On the other hand, Brissett knows the Patriots system, and he played well when he was there.
Cam Newton would be a very interesting move.
It depends on his health, but if Cam is in shape and over his injuries from the last two seasons, he could keep the Patriots relevant this season.
