Colin Kaepernick is back. Now, the question is, are any teams interested – and does he still have what it takes to play the game? No matter how good of an athlete one may be, nothing replaces live game action.
That’s why the term “game shape” is so important. Kaepernick, who has indicated that he has been working out ever since he left the game, may be in shape, but is he in NFL game shape? That answer may come this weekend.
Colin Kaepernick Atlanta workout
According to ESPN, all 32 NFL teams were informed Tuesday that a private workout will be held for free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia.
The workout session will include on and offfield work. Obviously, Kap will be showing what he has left in the tank on the field, and just like the NFL draft, teams will be able to conduct an interview with him.
While this workout is open to all teams, it appears several clubs have inquired about Kaepernick’s current football interest and how quickly he could be ready to play once again.
Unlike a few years ago, Kaepernick has been more vocal about his desire to return to the NFL.
The official memo that was sent to all 32 teams read this way:
“Earlier this year, we discussed some possible steps with his representatives and they recently emphasized his level of preparation and that he is ready to work out for clubs and be interviewed by them. We have therefore arranged this opportunity for him to work out, and for all clubs to have the opportunity to evaluate his current readiness and level of interest in resuming his NFL career.”
Good move or major distraction?
Sports are a funny thing. They are great for bringing people together, not dividing them. If Colin Kaepernick does impress a team and he is offered a contract it will be a distraction for that team — only at first.
Do you know what makes everything better? Winning!
If Kap gets a chance to play, and he does well, he will become a fan favorite. That’s the beauty of sports. The home crowd is always happy if you are winning.
Kaepernick claims he is ready to hit the field running once again, and with all the injuries out there, he may just get his chance. The Colin Kaepernick who seemed like he could take it or leave it in terms of returning to the NFL now seems like he wants back in a big way.
“I’m just getting word from my representatives that the NFL league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday,” TMZ reports. “I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday.”
