Cam Newton to Chicago Bears trade rumors are in the spotlight, as the Carolina Panthers made a huge announcement on Tuesday.
That announcement followed their big free agent acquisition on Monday, which basically indicated they’d found their new quarterback.
As the NFL’s calendar year is set to begin on Wednesday, Carolina revealed they had given Newton permission to seek a trade.
However, Cam didn’t seem to like how he was portrayed. It’s now opened the door for his future with another team, potentially in the NFC North.
Cam Newton blasts Panthers over trade tweet
On Tuesday morning, the story first arrived that Carolina had given Cam Newton permission to seek a trade, per the official Panthers website.
The report said that Panthers GM Marty Hurney had met up with Cam Newton and representation to discuss the plan. Newton had been with the team since Carolina made him No. 1 pick back in the 2011 NFL Draft.
“Every year, difficult decisions are made, and they are never easy. We have been working with Cam and his agent to find the best fit for him moving forward, and he will always be a Carolina Panther in our hearts,” Hurney said.
The Panthers tweeted out that they’d given Newton permission to seek a trade. However, it didn’t sit well with Cam, who blasted the team in a reply that was captured on a screenshot for later viewing.
The tweet with screenshot (below) was reported by NESN and comes from Dov Kleiman, an “independent NFL reporter.”

In the tweet, the 2015 NFL MVP says:
“I never asked for it. THERE IS NO DODGING THIS ONE; i love the @panthers TO DEATH AND WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU GUYS!! PLEASE DO NOT TRY AND PLAY ME, or MANIPULATE THE NARRATIVE AND ACT LIKE I WANTED THIS; you forced me into this!! -10VE”
The news of Carolina parting ways with Newton comes after the team reportedly signed former New Orleans Saints backup Teddy Bridgewater as their new QB.
Bears considered frontrunners for Newton?
The Chicago Bears are a team in the running to add another quarterback to their roster. It’s believed that QB will give Mitch Trubisky a competition for the starting job.
As of right now, Chicago is odds-on-favorite to land Cam Newton at +125, per future odds tweeted out by FanDuel Sportsbook (below). The Los Angeles Chargers (+210) and New England Patriots (+470) follow them.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were fourth at +500 odds, but it’s expected they will sign Tom Brady in the very near future.
Former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles and Cincinnati Bengals veteran Andy Dalton had also been mentioned in connection with the Bears.

On Monday, the Chicago Bears surprised fans when they signed veteran tight end Jimmy Graham to a two-year deal.
Now it appears the former Green Bay Packers star could be catching a pass or two from the versatile Cam Newton in the future if the rumors and odds end up correct.
