The Cleveland Browns quarterback had to leave Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Here’s what we know about the latest Baker Mayfield injury update.

It was the anticipated rematch between the two teams after their previous clash several weeks ago. While Cleveland got the upper hand with a win in that previous meeting, things didn’t bode quite as well in the second.

Now, their star quarterback is suffering what fans thought might be a setback for his latest season.

The Baker Mayfield injury occurred early in the game in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

As Mayfield was attempting to throw a pass, his right hand ended up hitting Steelers defender Bud Dupree’s helmet/facemask. That brought immediate concern for the Browns star as he would head to the locker room to get checked out.

With what happened to Baker Mayfield in Sunday’s game, some are saying his injury looks very familiar. That’s because the New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees suffered a similar injury weeks ago.

It sidelined the former Super Bowl-winning QB for multiple games, leaving the Saints in the capable hands of Teddy Bridgewater. For the Browns, it meant the game was in the hands of Garrett Gilbert.

Mayfield injury update, game status

Gilbert’s time on the field wasn’t all that productive, but Mayfield’s time away from it was short. After the earlier scare, Cleveland Browns got some great news as their starting quarterback would return to the game.

However, there may be additional injury evaluation coming for Mayfield to determine if he needs any treatment. So far, it seems like Mayfield avoided a more serious injury like Drew Brees suffered weeks ago.

As of this report, the Cleveland Browns were losing 20-13 to the Steelers in the fourth quarter. A loss wouldn’t bode well for their playoff chances going forward.

At 5-6, they were considered the No. 10 team overall ahead of Sunday’s game which had them behind the Titans, Colts, and Raiders who are also fighting to get into a Wild Card spot.

The game was a rematch of the two teams’ previous Thursday night battle which featured a major brawl in the game’s final seconds. It brought with it suspensions for several players after Myles Garrett got into it with Steelers backup QB Mason Rudolph and ultimately pulled his helmet off to clock him on the head with.

Garrett was suspended indefinitely by the league for his actions. Meanwhile, Rudolph was given a fine for his role in the altercation. Rudolph was on the bench for today’s matchup as the Steelers went with Devlin Hodges instead.

As of this report, Mayfield’s stats included 17-for-29 completions for 191 yards and a touchdown. The Browns also had backup Gilbert in for a few plays in the game but he recorded no major stats in his time on the field.
