While New York Knicks fans hope to land a major star in Zion Williamson, the team says not so fast. Brand new NBA trade rumors are heating up as the Draft Lottery approaches that could involve an Anthony Davis to the Knicks trade.
Will several teams shake up the upcoming NBA Draft with this deal?
Knicks, Pelicans trade rumors involving Davis
When Tuesday night’s NBA Draft Lottery arrives, the New York Knicks are one of three teams with a shot at the top pick.
The Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers are also listed atop the Draft Lottery odds. So first and foremost, New York would need to land that top overall pick.
If they do, it now appears they could be compelled to trade that top pick for the New Orleans Pelicans’ Anthony Davis.
NBA insider Shams Charania reported recently the Knicks are going to put their focus on making the deal happen. It would bring one of the biggest stars in the league to a franchise in major need of help.

As of right now, these are just rumors, and as mentioned, it requires that the Draft Lottery works out in favor of the Knicks. However, bringing Anthony Davis to a Knicks team in need of a serious boost would be huge for NYC.
Why would Knicks & Pelicans do this deal?
Most likely, bringing Anthony Davis to the New York franchise is just part of the plan. The “endgame” so to speak, would be to assemble their own superteam consisting of Davis and a few other free agents.
So they’d sign those free agents this coming summer to create a team worthy of contending in the East. It appears they are more of the mindset of building a team that could go for a title now, instead of years later.
As for New Orleans, they realize Davis is going to be a free agent after the 2019-20 season. He’s already made his intentions known, and the team didn’t budge on trade talks with the Los Angeles Lakers this past season.
With that in mind, the Pelicans will want to move Davis and do it for some serious value. The top pick, which nets New Orleans the top incoming rookie in Zion Williamson does just that.
Knicks fans will watch the live Draft Lottery eagerly on Tuesday night to see how the ping pong balls play out.
