In what has got to be one of the most convoluted soap baby-switch storylines ever, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) gets one step closer to unknowingly adopting her step-sister’s baby. Did I mention the baby daddy is also shared between these two? This gives new meaning to keeping it all in the family.
Today an indecisive Steffy agrees to move forward in the awkward not to mention illegal plan to adopt what appears to be baby Beth. Baby Beth is Lope’s believed to be deceased newborn. Yikes.
Fans know that unscrupulous Dr. Reese Buckingham (Wayne Brady) probably lied when he told Lope that their poor daughter did not survive, then stole the baby in the hopes of making a quick buck. Or in this case, $200,000.
That’s how much he owes to shady guys who want him to pay up his gambling debt now, or they’ll harm his daughter. Reese is desperate and willing to do anything to keep his family safe.
Reese has introduced the baby to Steffy’s mom, Taylor (Hunter Tylo) who immediately fell in love with the babe, of course! Now she’s working Steffy to adopt the baby, as she has already expressed the desire to add to her family.
Steffy is on the fence, being sensitive to Lope’s situation. How would it look to suddenly acquire a child right after they have lost theirs? Indeed, it would look mighty suspicious if this weren’t a soap opera!
But spoilers reveal that today Steffy makes a big concession as her mom wheedles away at her.
She finally gives in and agrees to meet the baby’s “mom” as a first step toward getting the ball rolling, or in this case the stroller.
