The NBC show Reverie has been canceled after just one season. The show, which ran during the summer months with a premiere date on May 30, won’t get a second season on the network.
In the cancelation news, NBC didn’t provide a reason why the show was canceled. The network simply said that they would not pursue a second season. The decision comes three months after the first season of Reverie ended.
Deadline reveals that the news isn’t surprising given the ratings. The show averaged 2.1 million viewers, and while that may sound impressive, the website reports that it’s the smallest viewership in terms of numbers for an NBC original series during the summer.
Low ratings are often a major reason why a show gets canceled. Over the 10-episode run, Reverie simply couldn’t connect with NBC viewers to the point where the show got a boost. It may not have helped that the show ran on Wednesdays at 10/9c. It’s a later timeslot, which can be tough for new shows.
TV Line reveals that Reverie came in fourth as far as NBC’s summer shows behind Marlon, Shades of Blue, and Elementary. However, the Reverie did beat the CBS summer series Salvation.
Reverie was created by Mickey Fisher and starred Sarah Shahi as Mara Kint. Kint was a former hostage negotiator but turned to the academic world after going through a personal tragedy. However, she’s asked to help out a former co-worker who struggles to bring ordinary people out of a virtual-reality program. This program allows people to live out their wildest dreams.
She starred on the show alongside Dennis Haysbert, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Jessica Lu, and Kathryn Morris.
Needless to say, viewers who fell in love with Reverie, are disappointed with the network’s decision.

Now that NBC won’t be pursuing a second season, it’s possible the show will be picked up by another network. As one person points out in a tweet, the SYFY network may be interested. Only time will tell whether Reverie will get a second chance.
