First the great news: History’s “Vikings” announced it has ordered a 10-episode third season of creator Michael Hirst’s (The Tudors) historical drama series. This is very good news. If you haven’t started the series, catch up, there are few excellent meaty stories like this on the smallscreen currently.
The renewal comes four episodes into the second season of the scripted series.
“Vikings’ has taken viewers by storm and is one of the most compelling, visually stunning well-crafted dramas on television. With its passionate and loyal fan base, ‘Vikings’ makes History firmly in the scripted series genre, just as we are the leaders in reality television,” said Dirk Hoogstra, exec VP and g.m. of History and H2.
RAGNAR & BJORN SACRIFICE
Bjorn arrives with his mother Lagertha and a road full of men ready to support Ragnar and his quest to take Kattegat back. After a battlefield victory, Ragnar initiates his son Bjorn into the bloody sacrificial ways of thanking the Gods for a win. Someone of course has to lose their head.
”Vikings Season 2 Episode 5 “Answers in Blood” gave us some delicious red meat tonight, as we see Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) return to Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and together they beat back Jarl Borg (Thorbjørn Harr) – aka Jarly B here at the M&C Malibu Canyon Fjords.
“YOU HAVE A LOT TO LEARN”
ATHELSTAN IS HOPELESS
In Wessex, Athelstan (George Blagden) has a major crisis of faith while healing from his crucifixion wounds in the age of no Neosporin or Vicodin. King Ecbert is taking a shine to the monk like Ragnar did, and is using him in decision making.
No visible bathing this week.
Meanwhile Princess Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) is reveling in all of her prophecies. Ragnar arrives home and is happily reunited with Aslaug, his boys, and big brother Bjorn.
The nighttime raid before the battle sees Floki, Ragnar and Bjorn torch Jarly’s winter food stocks and an ax to the head scene that is one of the gnarliest deaths I’ve seen on TV of late.
Now that JarlyB is on the run, the people move back into their homes and the festivities begin, but Ragnar wants a sister wife situation and tests the Seer’s patience while the old guy is imparting some wisdom on him and has an ADD moment, rolling his eyes saying essentially, ‘is there a point to your story?’ A man with black lips is not to be trifled with. The decision, he says, will not be Ragnar’s as to which woman he can keep.
Previews for the coming episode show that a truce or some sort of alliance will be struck between Jarly and Ragnar, but nothing of Lagertha. Me thinks Ragnar misses her a LOT. I have a feeling somehow someway he is going to retrieve her from the Earl who Bjorn hates, telling his mum “don’t take any shit from him” when she leaves. Teaser notes from History say Lagertha won’t be walking into a ‘welcome back shield maiden’ situation with her hubbie. I have a strong suspicion her husband will be killed.
Bonus Intel: Bjorn is going to get a girlfriend! Slave girl Porunn (Gaia Weiss). You will lay eyes on her next week in the episode “Unforgiven.” We will be speaking with her tomorrow and finding out some insider scoop.
