Last night’s Real Time with Bill Maher was a great mix of liberal, middle-of-the road and conservative guests.
It was especially illuminating as many people have not been acquainted with the third candidate in the presidential race, Libertarian Gary Johnson.
Johnson is a former GOP governor (New Mexico) who Maher referred to as “sane” for his fiscally conservative approach to government and his lack of concern for what grown people do regarding marriage and drugs. He is staunchly pro choice.
This laissez-faire centrist attitude about personal politics rubs many religious conservatives who are pro life and anti-gay marriage the wrong way.
The monologue kicked off with Maher’s July 4th banter saying: “Brexit? In 1776 we brexited.” He wrapped up his opener with more damning news about Trump calling him a #whinylittlebitch.
Gary Johnson, along with his VP, former Republican Governor of Massachusetts Bill Weld are campaigning to “Make America Sane Again”. Sounds good to us.
Watch the best of clips we pulled below and see why Real Time is one of the better pop culture and political shows around.
The guests were Former N.M. Gov. Gary Johnson, comic and actor Jim Gaffigan and the main panel was liberal Cal. Rep. Barbara Lee, journalist Ari Melber and conservative editor (and the sole British national on the panel) Louise Mensch.
Hate Trump and Clinton? Consider Gary Johnson, the Libertarian who will also be on the ballot:
Brexit a boon or a bust? Maher argues with British Brexit supporter Louise Mensch:
With extreme poverty stats being halved, Maher debates globalization and asks, “who do we love the most…people or Americans?”
“Big dogs fart.” Maher is leveling the boom on Bill Clinton, Hillary’s biggest negative in his opinion:
Of Catholicism, comedy and a come to Jesus, Jim Gaffigan. Bill and Jim spark an unlikely bromance:
“Mouse-faced asswipe” George Will is a brilliant writer. Maher shares his mixed feelings but he is happy to see him abandon the GOP over Trump and speaker Ryan endorsing him.
New Rules wrap-up: California uber alles – California is the world’s sixth largest economy…Maher says, “Thank’s England!”
Overtime: Rep. Lee talks about Bernie Sanders’ effect on Democratic agenda and more.
