Bill also called out people who equate socialism as capitalism’s “devil” and reiterated his hashtag haterade for Donald Trump #whinylittlebitch.
“Socialism is capitalism’s lap-band…” said Maher when he wrapped up his New Rules segment.
This week’s guests were top of the show capitalist Nick Hanauer, reporter Matt Welch, John Avlon, and writer/producer and actor Eddie Huang, and mid-show guest was everyone’s favorite scientist, Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
Along with what he described as the journalistically weak Megyn Kelly, and the media acting as Trump’s corporate sponsors with their free airtime, it was free-market conservatives handwringing over increased socialism that made Maher see red. He fumed at Marco Rubio’s latest comments and said that Capitalism has eaten our democracy, with the national parks now in danger of a corporate takeover.
“Since this year’s election features both a socialist and a bonafide capitalist pig, someone needs to explain to the ‘free market solves everything’ crowd that when it comes to socialism, you’re soaking in it,” as Maher pointed out Florida was pretty much a welfare queen state with the elderly soaking up their socialism that Ronald Reagan warned conservatives about back in 1959. “Nostradumbass” quipped Maher after he read Reagan’s damning quote about Medicare.
Maher noted that the GOP loves to argue that socialism will go unchecked if Sanders is elected, Maher pointed out that capitalism has actually already done it. He said, “It’s eaten our democracy. It’s eating our middle class, it’s eaten our health care system, our prison system, our news media. It’s even eaten our food systems so thoroughly that a lot of our food is no longer something that should be eaten.” Maher also noted that socialism on its own is not the answer and needs to reign in capitalism so the system is balanced.
The National Park Service selling naming rights sent Maher right over the edge, as he did a humorous mashup of potential corporate sponsors for each monument and attraction, with Cialis sponsoring the phallic Washington Monument.
“You’ll no longer be having anonymous gay sex in Yosemite rest area No. 12 — you’ll be getting blown in the Quicken Loans men’s room,” joked Maher.
Megyn Kelly also was brought to task for her lack of journalistic credibility. Maher was slightly infuriated that Matt Welch lauded her interview skills-great exchange not to be missed.
