Plastic surgery is fascinating, for the good it can do and the transformative powers it has in the right hands.
Botched on E! is a docuseries about two good doctors – Dr Dubrow and Dr Nassif – who frame their workday with “renos”, renovations of prior surgeries gone south. These two, of course, have ethics and board certified status.
The jovial premise is enhanced by their charisma and chemistry as they face the onerous tasks undoing the wrongs of lesser surgeons. Not easy, as fragile scar tissue and damaged soft tissues present new problems.
The show also highlights the worst cases of underlying mental illness and at best, the neurotic flaws of the people who have skewed visions of what good looking really means, to them anyway.
The complexity of all these moving parts makes the series a true guilty pleasure and one that continues to draw viewers.
In tonight’s (May 31 at 9PM) new episode of Botched, Dr. Nassif helps female impersonator Victoria, who has a granuloma — a silicon injection injury on her nose which is a hard fix.
Meanwhile, a woman with “sideshow boobs” goes under the knife to help her marriage, and the doctors extract silicone star implants from a former body-modification and have other issues to tackle.
They also talk to Ashlea, who wants star shapes implanted on her ribs removed.
