Major discoveries are made on The Curse of Oak Island tonight — as the excitement ramps up ahead of next week’s Season 5 finale.

The sneak peek at the end of last week’s episode showed a red gemstone being uncovered as well as a man-made wooden structure at Smith’s Cove.

The red stone, which looked to be set in metal, was seen being described by metal-detecting expert Gary Drayton as a “bobby-dazzler” — a British phrase meaning something which is considered to be remarkable.

It is not yet known how old the object is, what the stone is, or how much it is worth, but Rick Lagina was seen in the sneak peek describing it as a “fantastic gemstone”. He was also heard saying: “This is treasure”.

A newly released trailer for the episode also saw Marty Lagina, appearing to refer to the stone, saying: “It could be very ancient. It might open all kinds of doors up.”

Meanwhile, the large piece of wood shown being discovered at the end of last week’s episode was described as being old and having a “45 cut” in it, while Marty was heard saying: “This is a structure, no doubt about it.”

The episode description suggests that the discovery is made at Smith’s Cove and helps support a theory held by long-time treasure-hunter Dan Blankenship.

It comes with just two episodes to go until the end of Season 5 of The Curse of Oak Island. Next week’s season finale is titled Amazing Discoveries, and will see the team will carry out their final operations on the island before the winter sets in. They will also have to decide whether to continue their efforts for another year.

Tonight’s episode is titled Seeing Red, which is believed to refer to the discovery of the red gemstone. The description reads:

With little time before the team must suspend operations for the harsh winter ahead, the fellowship battles the shifting tides of Smith’s Cove and finds evidence that may support one of Dan Blankenship’s early theories.

The episode will be followed by an eight-minute sneak peek of next week’s season finale, and then a new one-hour special looking at all the families that have been involved in the more than 200-year-old treasure hunt.

Titled A Family Album, the description for the one-hour special reads:

The Oak Island mystery has lured generations of treasure hunters. In this one-hour special, we revisit the families that have been a part of Oak Island’s history for more than two centuries.

The description for next week’s Season 5 finale reads:

It’s the season finale and the moment of truth for the fellowship of the dig, as the guys are faced with the burning question: quit or continue?

The finale will be followed by the premiere of new treasure-hunting series The Curse of Civil War Gold, which is being financed by Marty Lagina.
