On an electric Real Time with Bill Maher last night, Maher hosted a boisterous and controversial group with conservative Matt Schlapp, left of center reporter Chris Hayes, writer Max Brooks, conspiracy reporter Louise Mensch and academic Timothy Snyder.
In two particularly heated moments, one during the main show and one during the online Overtime segment, Maher literally shut down Mensch and Hayes on the topic of Islam.
During the main panel discussion, Maher brought up Wednesday’s London terror attack in which a 52-year-old British-born islamist terrorist – who had been previously investigated by British Intel – killed four people outside of London’s Parliament.
“It has nothing to do with Islam? an incredulous Maher said to Mensch who said it did not. He dismissed her referenced past history with the IRA bombings and said, “that was the PAST.”
Maher then repeated to her: “Are there Christian terrorist armies like Isis? Can we not f*** around anymore can we please get real about this?” and cut off Mensch mid-sentence.
Mensch spent the better part of her time damning Vladimir Putin as being the one responsible for Trump’s unethical motives and the woes of the EU.
A shocked Maher challenged her mocking a machine gun spray at the end of his remark, saying: “Every time some bomb goes off, before it goes off, somebody yells ‘Allahu Akbar.’ I never hear anybody go ‘Merry Christmas, this one’s for the flying nun!’
In the monologue and before things got tense, Bill goes into a deep dive on how “Mad King” Donald Trump the con man is being found out by even his most ardent supporters.
Up at bat first was Matt Schlapp, a conservative who Bill had on to discuss Trump and other issues like lying on a scale of which we have never seen before.
When asked about Trump’s lying and degradation of the White Office, Schlapp said: “I think everything’s fair and I think you I think with people who fear Donald Trump want to know is, you know is he full of a little bullshit sometimes and a little bit of hype? or is there something else there that you’re worried about a little more?”
“I would say as a Trump supporter that I actually think it is part of someone who has not been involved in politics who’s coming to the system has had amazing success in a very short period of time…he became the president, political success.”
Maher interrupts him and says: “Yes, he fooled people.”
The two discuss the intelligence agencies and the committee that appears to be compromised by the Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes’ actions this week:
Maher opened New Rules admonishing Trump supporters to open their eyes. He said: “I know you ‘real’ Americans hate being called stupid, but you gotta meet me halfway and stop being stupid!”
New Rules was all about the long con of Trump, where Maher highlighted every lie, exaggeration, and falsehood exposed in video clips for Trump.
Overtime, where Bill finally has had it with Louise Mensch’s PC soft stance on Islam and how Sharia law and that particular faith (unlike Judaism and Christianity) will most certainly eat away at Britain’s national culture if the country becomes 51% or more Muslim. Maher said: “If a European country sometime in the future became 51% Muslim, would it be the same country? Would it have the same values, the same laws? Would the laws change?”
Not stopping her arguments, Mensch was adamant that the fear over different cultures is the issue, which was one of several moments Maher had it with her:
“I’m talking about our fundamental principles like equality of women, separation of religion and state, respect for minorities, rule of law, as opposed to religious rule.”
Then when the subject is broached again in Overtime, Bill literally throws his cards down and cuts short the entire segment in frustration over her defense of Islam.
Joining Mensch in defense of Islam was MSNBC’s Chris Hayes who was trying to “get” Matt Schlapp over Indonesia’s Islamic majority when Maher shut him down hard saying that women wanting to enter the police of military enter they must submit to the demeaning two finger test to prove they are virgins:
