Kristi and Jimmy Newman fought back against a violent home invasion – Home Alone spotlights the case

Kristi and Jimmy Newman narrowly escaped a violent home invasion, Investigation Discovery’s Home Alone examines their story and explains how they managed to get out alive.

June 9, 2012, in Stafford County, Virginia, and recently married couple Kristi and Jimmy Newman were enjoying an evening in their new home. Around 1:00 a.m. the doorbell rang and when Jimmy went down to answer he was confronted by three teenager, who had broken into the house via the garage.

The teens were armed with knives and a club and even as Jimmy tried to warn his wife, they ran upstairs grabbed her before she could escape. They then ransacked the house and beat the couple, concentrating on Jimmy and ensuring his compliance by threatening Kristi.

Later the intruders moved the couple down to the kitchen and threatened to burn them, it was then that Jimmy took his chance when two of the teens left the room. He grabbed a knife and the couple ran for their lives, with Jimmy stabbing two of their attackers as he and Kristi fled their home.

The teenagers were later arrested and police managed to tie them to several other home invasions in the area, with detectives convinced that they would have eventually committed a murder if their spree had not been interrupted by the Newmans.

In 2016 the Newmans were honored with the Molly Gill Survivor’s Award and told the audience how constant prayer had helped them come to terms with their ordeal.

Home Alone – The Doorbell Rang Twice airs at 10:00 PM on Investigation Discovery.
