Joan Bent had a seemingly perfect life but was murdered by her husband Donald

This week Betrayed spotlights the murder of Joan Bent, who was strangled and left in the trunk of her own car.

Feb 16, 1986, in Upstate New York and Joan Bent went missing from her home that she shared with husband Donald.

The pair had not been married that long but had been friends since childhood and Donald seemed distraught when he reported his 47-year-old wife missing. Sadly just six days later Joan’s frozen body was found in the trunk of her car, she’d been strangled to death.

He told investigators that the pair had eaten dinner together and then she had headed off the office. This conflicted with the autopsy results that showed Joan had been killed almost immediately after she’d eaten her food.

Police arrest Donald and charged him with murder, with a jury later convicting him on the circumstantial evidence. He was sentenced to 25 years to life.

Detectives believe Donald decided to kill Joan after he discovered she was going to divorce him.

Betrayed airs on Thursdays at 10:00 PM on Investigation Discovery.
