Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life writer Amy Sherman-Palladino told Netflix she would “hang herself from a shower curtain” if they put out all four episodes of the new limited series at once.
However, her threats were met with deaf ears…much to the joy of fans, as the internet TV network previously announced all four parts will available at the same time — for some serious binge-watching.
Palladino also joked about returning to the Stars Hollow set, which has since been used to film Pretty Little Liars, saying: “I’ve never seen so much brown paint in my life.”
The showrunner, who also penned the original show, said it all had to be repainted and “zhushed”.
Sherman-Palladino spoke out about the show at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer Press Tour, as the trailer for the new four-part series was released.
Meanwhile, fans can rejoice that Lorelai and Rory’s chemistry still rules, with Lauren Graham (Lorelai) telling Alexis Bledel (Rory): “I’ve missed you kid.”
And Lauren revealed she was overjoyed at returning to Gilmore Girls. She said: “I just couldn’t believe I got to do it again.”
When asked about the plot of the upcoming series — which will feature four 90-minute episodes, Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn — Sherman-Palladino said: “It is a journey to the last four words.”
i.e. There’s no point in skipping to the end, as this is all about what happens as the story unfolds.
Referring to what she learned about family from the show, she said: “The shit in your family never gets worked out.” She added that family conflict was, for a writer, “the gift that keeps on giving.”
Asked whether Gilmore Girls could come back… again, she kept vague, saying: “This is what it is, right now.”
The Netflix reboot — which comes ten years since the series finale — will boast most of the original cast.
The strummy la-las have returned in a short teaser they share from the Winter episode of the revival in an exclusive clip shown at TCAs.
The original run of the Gilmore Girls was from October 5, 2000, to May 15, 2007. The show — set in Connecticut — tells the story of the mother-and-daughter Lorelei and Rory Gilmore as they search for love and happiness.
