A Game of Thrones reunion special has been filmed by HBO. This news broke over the weekend, setting off a lot of commenting from fans on social media.

When it comes to when the Game of Thrones special might air, that answer is a bit tricky. The network has made no announcement about showing it. In fact, HBO hasn’t even confirmed that it took place.

Most of the information about this get-together is from Sean Bean, but his character died in Season 1 of the show. He noted, in several recent interviews, that a get-together took place, peeking the interest level of GoT fans.

Game of Thrones Season 8 is coming

There are going to be six episodes of Game of Thrones Season 8. It’s a shortened installment, but there are heavy hints that each episode will be longer than in the past.

No exact GoT release date has been announced, with a lot of rumors about when the new episodes will finally debut.

More on the Game of Thrones reunion

Some of the quotes attributed to actor Sean Bean, who played Ned Stark on GoT, have been quite interesting. This one comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which conducted an interview with the veteran actor.

“Last time, was about four weeks ago in Belfast. Conan O’Brien did this thing. It was the last episode, so we all got together. It was good! It’s funny with work, you don’t really keep in touch. You do so many types of jobs in that part of the world. It’s just like whenever I see old friends or even old drama school friends, it’s just the same, we pick up where we left off last time.”

What does it all mean? This indicates that a lot of actors and actresses were on hand, including those who may have died on the show. It would sure be an interesting special on HBO if they brought back characters that haven’t been seen in years. With seven seasons already completed, that could lead to a lot of past footage getting shown.

A Game of Thrones reunion could also help spur interest for Season 8, so maybe HBO has a plan in place for when they can start advertising it all. Or maybe the plan is to hold it back until after the final episodes have already aired.

Game of Thrones Season 8 will debut on HBO in 2019.
