On tonight’s Gold Rush, there are nail-biting moments for Todd Hoffman as he tries to move a huge piece of equipment atop a precarious ridge — and time is not on his side.
The Hoffman crew is racing to lift “Monster Red’s” 25,000lb shaker deck on to its stand above a 25ft pan, after quitting the High Bar mine and moving their whole operation to Buckland.
But the deck is unstable and the crew needs to reposition the crane and do it fast!
Hoffman says: “If the outrigger legs aren’t secured, the crane could topple taking the 25,000lb shaker deck with it.” And that would mean ruination for Todd Hoffman and his men.
Hoffman watches and worries. He says: “Hey guys, be careful. We cannot screw this up. If we get this shaker in there it will be by the skin of our teeth.”
Hoffman watches this hard-hat ballet of precision and finesse as the guys try to get the job done, and adds: “Your whole season, sitting right here…scary.”
Time is of the essence as the giant load dangles from a winch and some heavy-duty wire cables. It’s nail-biting and the stakes are at their highest.
Right, left, up and down, finally the guys get the four peg feet into the holes and the valuable piece of equipment is safe.
Hoffman is elated that his crack team did the job without a hiccup.
He says: “Yes sir, thank you! I could’ve bent rebar with my butt cheeks right there. Your whole season freaking dangling 20 feet in the air? It’s not funny. We did it, though!”
Meanwhile, Hoffman has delivered the ultimate teaser in an interview with FOX news. He said: “Something kind of miraculous happens later in the season and you got to watch to see what happens.
“It’s definitely something that I’m never going to forget the rest of my life.”
And watch the clip below as Hoffman and his crew talk about upping sticks when High Bar doesn’t pan out. The guys were losing hope and a tough decision was made.
