David Eason is breaking his silence and sharing his story about what really happened with the family dog, Nugget, back in late April. Back then, it was revealed that David had allegedly shot and killed the family dog because it had nipped Ensley. In addition, Jenelle Evans made a 911 call in relation to the incident.
Then, when the couple said nothing about the incident, the local police department inquired about it, releasing a statement. They claimed that it could have been a publicity stunt when they failed to find any proof that the dog had been killed.
Now, David is breaking his silence and during an interview with PEOPLE. He tears up as he explains that he loves the dog and it was heartbreaking what he thought he had to do.

“It was a situation where my daughter, her health, her safety was in danger,” David explains of his actions.
“This was something that nobody wants to ever have to do. The dog was aggressive. Yes, she might not be huge or whatever, but you know when a dog bites a child on the face more than one time, then it should never be around the child again. If you give the dog up for adoption, one day it’s going to be around children again,” he added, defending his actions.
David explained that he was within his legal right to kill the dog because it had attacked a child. The video was shared online and not everyone considered the bite an attack.
“If you call the authorities at that point, the law says the dog has to be euthanized. I’m not going to pay anyone to euthanize my dog when I could do it myself,” he explained.
“I mean, I loved that dog. I still think about her every day. It’s really hard for me. A lot of people put me down for it, they hate me for it, but like I said it was not something I wanted to do,” he points out, choking back tears.
After the interview was shared, Jenelle thanked PEOPLE for letting them share their story and explain everything that happened. She hopes that this will help squash any rumors. Jenelle also explains that this shooting was never meant to be shared in the media and it was her telling one friend that made everything spiral out of control. She ended her post by saying that they were both happy to move on and stand strong together.
