Costco caskets and whiskey salad as Baskets renewed for Season 3

Shopping for a casket at Costco — Joe Sachem as Kyle and Louie Anderson as Christine Baskets

Baskets has just been renewed for Season 3 by FX, and it’s not hard to see why — with the show offering up another no-miss episode tonight.

The hit series will air for its third run in 2018, with the network saying the decision was taken to renew it after the series “solidified” its standing as one of the best comedies on television in Season 2.

It comes after Louie Anderson won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Christine Baskets in Season 1.

The fun continues in tonight’s episode as Christine’s handsome twins Cody and Logan (Garry and Jason Clemmons) return home after the tragic casino death of Memaw, Christine’s mom, last week.

The episode opens with Christine (Louie Anderson) buying a casket for her mother at Costco, and deadpans to the salesman hawking the “mother casket” as a top-rated seller: “Who’s rating it, ghosts?”

Meanwhile, the family is assembling for the funeral as Cody greets Chip and Martha with a black eye at the airport. Logan is driving in from LA. There’s some bad blood between Chip and Logan, we learn.

The brothers reunite: Zach Galifianakis as Chip, Garry Clemmons as Cody, Martha Kelly as Martha

Chip and Dale come to their brothers’ rescue and find them a new gig in an excellent episode that is heavy with grief, guilt, and introspection for Christine, who looks back on her life.

Chip is sent to sort the twins’ troubles out and learns from Cody that thanks to Logan’s wandering eye, The Chemical Brothers fired them a few weeks back.

A brainstorming Chip enlists his ex Penelope in France to find them a new gig with the Sneaker Pimps.

Logan and Cody arrive at the church and greet Christine. Christine’s brother Jim is also introduced (wearing his best Quizno’s jacket) as he enquires about their mother’s finances before the funeral.

Watch for a poignant scene between Christine and Jim about their father’s selfishness and abusive behavior. “He was a mean drunk,” says Christine, who bought a new funeral plot for their mom far away from their awful dad.

Then watch for a funny exchange as Christine tells Martha about her “sexual chemistry” with Ken in Denver.

Stay for Christine’s whiskey salad recipe. The key ingredient? “One raisin,” according to Christine, adding: “I know, it’s a fluke!”

Baskets airs Thursdays at 10/9c on FX
