Another childhood horror story emerges on TLC’s My 600-lb Life tonight, as we meet Tanisha Cleveland — a mother of two whose obesity comes after a traumatic upbringing as a youngster.
At only 32 years of age, Tanisha appears decades older than she looks and has the poor health of someone in their end-of-life decline.
In footage from the episode she explains how she “doesn’t have the time to diet”, despite all the warning bells going off regarding her health, after her partner left her.
Tanisha, from Silsbee, Texas, grew up as the caretaker of her drug-addicted and obese mother. Her childhood was fraught with danger as her addled mother brought strange men into the home, putting her daughter at extreme risk.
This neglect led Tanisha to constantly over-eat, which gave her the only feeling of safety and security that she knew of in her toxic home life.
The milestones that Tanisha reached were frightening ones. By the age of 24, she was well over 480-lb and was putting on weight at an alarming rate.
In slow motion, Tanisha’s life pattern was repeated, as she became an obese mother herself and her own two daughters became her caretakers, just as she was her own mother’s.
The breaking point was when Tanisha was nearing 600-lb and had some frightening health scares. She made an effort to contact weight-loss specialist Dr. Nowzaradan in Houston, Texas, to try and alter her life’s course and get healthy.
But the bad news was not over for Tanisha, after she recently lost her mother at the young age of 50 from obesity-related causes.
In the clip below, Tanisha laments losing her partner”Shorty”, who helped her do everything and whose departure has left her demotivated to do the work required to lose the weight.
But deep inside she knows she must make time to lose the weight before it kills her, just like her mother…
