Chicago P.D. sure left NBC viewers gasping for air with that preview for next week’s episode. On Wednesday night, following an episode where Burgess learned that she is pregnant, NBC gave a sneak peek at next week’s episode.

In the few quick scenes shown for the Chicago P.D. fall finale, it appeared that Jay Halstead was clinging to life on the flood of a building. This scene goes with a prior photo released of an injured Halstead leaning against a pipe.

After already hinting that the character of Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Teresa Squerciati) might end up benched due to her pregnancy, it seems almost unbelievable that the Intelligence team would also lose another member.

During the first few episodes of the new season, it was revealed that Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) wasn’t coming back and that he had gone to help his sister, Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund), with relief efforts in Puerto Rico. Seda was replaced on the Chicago P.D. cast by Lisseth Chavez, who plays Vanessa Rojas.

Jay Halstead on Season 7, Episode 9 — Absolution

NBC has released the synopsis for the fall finale, which states that Halstead’s secret ongoing relationship with a woman connected to another case puts him in jeopardy. This situation isn’t exactly new for his character, as it sounds exactly like what happened in Season 5 when he dated someone involved in a case.

It could be that the writers are trying to drum up some excitement for the show before it heads on the long winter hiatus at NBC, and it’s always worrisome when a series gets to this point of its run.

At the same time, having a character like Jay Halstead, who is easy to crossover with his brother, Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), on Chicago Med, might be too good to cast aside.

No matter what happens during the fall finale, fans should make sure to watch the all-new episode, because it could dictate how a few storylines play out on the back end of Season 7. Additionally, fans should enjoy the last new episode of 2019, as the winter breaks are pretty long for One Chicago shows.

Chicago P.D. airs Wednesday nights at 10/9c on NBC.
