Chicago Fire fans who were paying attention at the end of the last episode saw a huge teaser for the fall finale. Though it seems pretty early for a show to go on hiatus, that’s exactly what will happen Wednesday night.

Following the presentation of Season 8, Episode 9, called Best Friend Magic, Chicago Fire will go on its winter break. In plain terms, it means this is the final new episode of 2019.

A return date has not yet been announced by NBC, so it’s also unclear when the first episode of 2020 will air. That leaves things a bit open-ended and it will seem even more unsettled if there are significant cliffhangers during the final moments of the November 20 episode.

According to the press release from NBC, an unexpected visit is going to throw Casey for a loop. As we already saw in the quick preview for the show, Gabby is about to reappear in the lives of the people at Firehouse 51.

Elsewhere in the new episode, Severide is on a mission to exonerate someone he feels was wrongly convicted of arson. It seems like another case that his superiors don’t want him messing with, so it could lead to some friction with his new bosses at OFI.

The stresses that Kidd has been putting on her mind and body by working at the firehouse and teaching training classes in her spare time will catch up with her.

Also advertised during the new episode is that Cruz is going to set out to fix one of Otis’s old toys. This portion of the episode is likely to serve as the lighter material to provide a few laughs among all the drama that is about to take place.

The Chicago Fire cast members set to be featured in Season 8, Episode 9 are Jesse Spencer (Casey), Taylor Kinney (Severide), Miranda Rae Mayo (Kidd), Joe Minoso (Cruz), and Monica Raymund (Gabby Dawson).

Remember, you don’t want to miss this all-new episode on Wednesday night, as it is the last new installment for quite a while. NBC usually gives its Chicago shows long breaks over the holidays.

Chicago Fire airs Wednesday nights at 9/8c on NBC.
