Casey Anthony: An American Murder Mystery shines spotlight on ‘untold story’ of controversial case

Investigation Discovery tonight starts a three-part investigation into one of the most controversial murder cases in US history — in Casey Anthony: An American Murder Mystery.

The documentary series looks in-depth at the fascinating case, promising the “untold story”, and features interviews with those right at the heart of the story.

It began on July 15, 2008, when Casey’s mom Cindy Anthony rang 911 in Orlando, Florida, to say her two-year-old granddaughter Caylee had been missing for a month.

Caylee’s remains were found in a wooded area near the family home in December that year.

Her mom Casey quickly became the focus of police investigations after Caylee’s disappearance and faced trial in 2011 on first-degree murder charges — but was found not-guilty by a jury, prompting public outrage.

Casey Anthony: An American Murder Mystery looks behind-the-scenes at the investigation into the case and how the trial unfolded.

It airs over three consecutive nights on Investigation Discovery.
