Last night’s Real Time with Bill Maher with Roger Stone, Neera Tanden, Gen. Michael Hayden, Rick Santorum, and Jose Antonio Vargas did not disappoint.
The heady episode had the panelists cover the past war sins of the neocons, the shortcomings of the Democrats, the lunacy of Trump’s administration and the milestone of Maher’s 420th show.
Bill Maher’s top-of-show interview with Trump associate Roger Stone, who he dubbed the president’s “albino assassin”, included intense questioning over the Russian hacker Guccifer 2.0 and Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 election.
The show proceeded in panel and hashed over how awful Trump’s first 100 or so days in office had been, and how crushing Trump’s rollbacks of anything related to climate change were — all interspersed with Maher’s celebration of “420”, a common marijuana reference.
The subject led to a giant Marijuana cake being brought out to him by his earlier interview guest, Roger Stone, on stage.
A longtime Trump confidant and political “fixer” of sorts, Stone took Maher head on and argued over many things, but on the subject of marijuana, he and Maher saw eye-to-eye.
At the end of the show, Maher point blank asked Stone his thoughts on marijuana, which is still illegal under federal law.
Stone is a believer in state’s rights and mentioned whenever he was in a state where it was legal that he had no problem obtaining it.
Maher never misses a beat to crack a joke, and said: “Are you Roger Stoner?”. Stone quickly shot back: “Only when I’m in the states where it’s legal.”
Stone said Trump appointee Attorney General Jeff Sessions is “completely wrong” on his hardliner stance regarding marijuana.
Stone even wrote an article that argued for President Trump to let this be a states-rights issue. Maher then asked Stone to bring out the 420 cake.
“This cake is completely baked with pot,” Maher said as he offered General Hayden a slice.
Up first in our selection of clips from the show is Maher’s monologue, as he quipped: “April Fools, a day where we tell outrageous lies…or as Trump calls it, Tweeting.”
Stone, an opponent to the “deep state”, is a longtime Real Time panelist and guest.
Below he blames the neocons from both Bush and Clinton eras for trying to mire us is a new war in Syria with Russia.
Stone says: “We’re in the trouble that we’re in because of the Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama neocon continuum which has gotten us into endless war.”
He adds: “I’d like to see a Democratic party that would stand up to Islamic terrorism, that would protect gay people, that would protect Christians, that would protect women — they [Democrats] don’t seem to be inclined to do that.”
But Stone and Bill agree on a few things — that the Democrats do not take the Islamic threat seriously enough and their PC-laden agendas bog down real change. They both also love pot…
Meanwhile, Rick Santorum’s defense of coal miners and the industry made Maher lose his mind saying: “More people get cancer…are you okay with that?”
New Rules saw Maher chastise the “enablers” of the Trump administration.
Maher closed the argument saying: “It takes a village to help a man-child stay in power, and the excuse ‘I’m just doing my job’ is starting to sound an awful lot like I was just following orders…'”
On Overtime, Stone got real about his view of the CIA, plus everybody hates Julian Assange, and Santorum took a moment to regroup…
