Vikings is a gritty drama on History Channel following the exploits of the legendary 9th century Viking leader Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons.

Historically Ragnar is thought to be a mixture of several people but his ‘sons’ were certainly real individuals. With references in various text to Ivar the Boneless, Björn Ironside, Halfdan Ragnarsson and Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye.
The show has proven popular and has been hailed by some for a more realistic potrayel of life in what some call the Dark Ages. Also, because the series is on History Channel the amount of sexual content is limited and several reviewers think this has contributed to stronger character development and story lines.
Vikings is about to start its fifth season and in the previous season the show skipped ahead in time, with Ragnar’s son now men. We expect this season to concentrate on the tensions between the king and his sons and also to explore Björn’s conquests on the Mediterranean.
