Riverdale actor Cole Sprouse won the award for Drama Movie Star of 2019 at the E! People’s Choice Awards which took place on Sunday at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

Sprouse won the award for his role as Will Newman in the Justin Baldoni-directed romantic drama movie Five Feet Apart. He also won the award of Male TV Star of 2019 for his role as Jughead Jones on The CW’s teen drama series Riverdale.

He beat several superstar nominees to win the award for Drama Movie Star of 2019.

Competing nominees for the award included Taron Egerton (Rocketman), Zac Efron (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile), Lupita Nyong’o (Us), Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), and Samuel Jackson (Glass).

Nominees for the award of Male TV Star of 2019 included TV stars such as Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), and Milo Ventimiglia and Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us).

During his acceptance speech for the Drama Movie Star of 2019 award, the former Disney Channel star, dressed in a dark blue suit and light blue shirt and tie, could not resist taking a dig at some of the A-list actors he beat to clinch the award.

“To some of the other newcomers in this category, specifically DiCaprio and Pitt, just keep your heads up,” the young actor said cheekily. “Don’t let this dishearten you. You guys are going to be here one day. The three of us, we’ve had this competition for a long time. But, apparently, this is my year.”

He went on to say he was proud to win the Drama Movie Star of 2019 award for his role in a movie that helped to raise awareness about cystic fibrosis. He also thanked fans for making his success a reality.

“It’s a really underrepresented disease (cystic fibrosis) and, thanks to all you guys who came out and watched it, I think it hit its mark and we really hit our goal,” Sprouse said.

He then gave a shout out to Five Feet Apart cast-mates, such as Haley Lu Richardson, who played the lead role of Stella Grant.

Many fans were surprised that Sprouse beat stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Samuel Jackson, to win the award of Drama Movie Star of 2019. Many took to Twitter to voice their amazement.

Some fans even alleged that Sprouse was able to beat all the other nominees because the process was “rigged” in his favor.
