Ayub Bachchu, the beloved Bangladeshi rockstar, has died age 56.

The multi-talented musician passed away Thursday morning after going into cardiac arrest. Bachchu was known as a singer, songwriter, and a guitarist.

The Director of Medical Sciences of Square Hospitals, Dr. Mirza Nizamuddin, revealed that Ayub had arrived at the hospital Thursday morning.

“Ayub Bachchu suffered heart failure at his home around 8:30 am, and left for Square Hospital with his driver by car. He died on his way to the hospital,” Dr. Nizamuddin revealed. “He was found dead on arrival after he reached the hospital at 8:40 am. On-duty doctors announced his death at 8:55 am.”

Dr. Nizamuddin continued his statement, revealing that Ayub Bachchu had been a regular patient at the hospital because of previous complications.

“Bachchu underwent heart valve surgery in 2009 and was a regular patient at this hospital. His continued to suffer from heart tissue damage and health complications,” he said.

It seemed that Bachchu had suffered some medical issues throughout the years. In 2012, Ayub Bachchu was admitted to a private hospital because of fluid in the lungs. At the time, he was experiencing respiratory problems and he was kept the in Coronary Care Unit.

His family has revealed that his first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the National Eidgah grounds on Friday after Jummah prayers. The burial will take place at a later date and he will be interred at his family graveyard in Chittagong.

Ayub Bachchu may best be known as part of his band, LRB, but he also produced 12 solo albums.

According to the band’s personal website, Ayub was known by the nickname AB. He had become a legendary name in the history of Bangladeshi band music because of his fanbase and his amazing guitar skills.

Bachchu started playing in his birthplace of Chittagong with his first band, Feelings, in 1978. He later joined the band Souls in 1980. It wasn’t until 1991 that the singer formed the band LRB, Love Runs Blind. It was with LRB that he wrote and performed some of his best songs.

However, the band’s popularity spread far beyond its domestic audience.  LRB performed in Qatar, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Cyprus. Ayub has been honored in India and the IIM Joka Rock Fest. He often served as a judge in local music competitions.

Needless to say, his death is a major loss to the Bangladeshi music industry and the country as a whole.
