LA-based bass wizard Reid Stefan released a hard-hitting rework for the classic 1984 freestyle track “Lookout Weekend,” and it will get your body moving.

Back in May, I got to see the producer spin an incendiary set at Steve Aoki’s takeover of Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles, and I was a fan ever since. Stefan here gives Debbie Deb’s tune a future bass treatment, the retro-minded 808 beat transmutes to a grimy drop replete with the wobbles and synth stabs that can turn any dance club into a riot. Sure this is one hell of revamp of a legendary dance cut, but more so as an homage than a remix.

“When I finished the track, Dim Mak reached out and sent it to her, and not only did she really dig my remake, but she got in the studio and re-cut the vocal parts specially for my version,” Reid says of the track in a press release. “Musically and vocally, it’s a complete 2015 remake rather than a remix.”

“Lookout Weekend” is a wonderful juxtaposition of Stefan’s nostalgia and being ahead of the curve, Reid Stefan shows true reverence to past dance music and gives it a fresh, sleek new coat of paint. Be sure to grab a download here
