Ever since their debut back in 2016, YG Entertainment’s top K-pop girl group Black Pink (often stylized as
Overall, it is amazing what Black Pink has been able to achieve, but let’s not leave out the accomplishments and achievements of the girl group’s members individually. In this case, Lisa has earned the impressive achievement of becoming the most popular female celebrity of Korea on Instagram. She had to dethrone Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation to pull this feat off.

Lisa’s social media achievement was first recognized by K-pop fans and media on Sunday, January 13, 2019, KST. At that time, Lisa had approximately 13 million followers on her Instagram account. As a result of this accomplishment, she has become the most-popular female celebrity in Korea on Instagram. The accomplishment previously belonged to Taeyeon of So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD), better known as Girls’ Generation, at 12.9 million followers.
It should also be noted that the Black Pink’s members’ Instagram accounts are only seven months old. Yet, Lisa and her other three co-members are in the top five of most popular female celebrities in Korea. Jennie has 11.77 million followers, Rosé has 10.07 million followers. Finally, Jisoo has 9.95 million followers.
Why is Lisa’s social media accomplishment such a big deal?
K-pop fans are congratulating Lisa on her Instagram accomplishment, but there is a far more important point to bring up pertaining to it. All one has to do is compare Lisa’s career to the previous title holder’s career, Taeyeon.
Taeyeon is the leader of, what many say is the most influential K-pop girl group in Hallyu history, Girls’ Generation. She has a very successful solo music career with a string of hit songs. Finally, she is very popular with her appearances on Korean television.
Lisa, on the other hand, only has being a part of Black Pink to fall on. She has no solo career, and she lacks in Korean television appearances. In short, Lisa’s popularity is backed by raw appeal. Her life outside of her work alone is so interesting that many people are vesting time in it.
Ultimately, such are just social media labels. What is important is that K-pop fans support the idols they admire, and show them love. Social media is just one way to do it.
